Aunkai: Dentatsu 伝達

I propose we carry on the study of the Aunkai 阿吽会

A term that is very important in Aunkai but which we don’t talk about.

DENTATSU

What does it mean ?
This term is explained in the following manner:

  • ·         DENTATSU to transmit the force (in a different way than to hit with speed and weight)

It is interesting to venture deeper into the principle, because it is not easy to understand and apply if we stick to an exclusively physical approach of the body.

I had an exchange with Akuzawa Sensei about the Dentatsu in order to be more just and precise in the explanation I wished to offer.

DENTATSU what it is ?

It is the transfer of our whole energetic being into another when the physical contact takes place.
I’m not talking about a transfer of weight because the physical mass will never enter the body of the opponent and thus will always be dodgable, it will remain on the surface.

We need to understand that this is about the transfer of all of our energetic mass into the body of the opponent: this is Dentatsu. We can visualize it in the following manner, with the image of an iceberg:

The water corresponds to the physical body of the opponent. The part below the water corresponds to what is sent into the other on the energetic level. The part above the water, which represents the physical part, simply remains in contact with the water. In order to apply Dentatsu, we need to understand one of the key elements of the Aunkai which is the connection to the other.

Without this connection it will not be possible to apply Dentatsu because the connection to the other is necessary in order to transfer the energy into the body of the other.

By observing the Kunren and duo exercises, you will be able to see the application of the connection to the other, and the next step of this exercise, the application of Dentatsu.

It is particularly remarkable in the work of Age te and Sage te which are very important exercises in the developpement and comprehension of this energetic principle about the connection to the other.
The energetic connection will allow you to bond with the other in a « fusionnal » manner. It isn’t a body that holds or remains in contact with another but in fact a link between the two which will make it impossible for them to be apart anymore.

How to practice this connection ?

Here are two exercices to practice and understand this connexion to the other and Dentatsu :

The first : get a hold of somebody’s wrist and ask them to free from your grasp.

The second with the help of a pen : the partner will hold it firmly and block their arm in order to make any movement impossible.

In this video you can see the two exercices to practice
In the first exercise, the work is concentrated on your connection to the other by holding their wrist
In order to accomplish it, imagine that in the moment you make contact with the other’s arm, your hand continues to get into their wrist, as if an invisible hand continued their action of holding as far as to reach the bone.

!!! Of course there must be no tension and no force in your arm at the moment of the seizure !!!

As for the second exercise which allows you to try to apply Dentatsu, your connection at the moment of the seizure must be done the same way as in the first exercise.

Then, this invisible hand which entered the arm of the one holding the pen moves inside, you can imagine it moving and this is what will make it move.

By taking a closer look at Dentatsu I wondered about its similarity with the Aiki.

I asked Akusawa Sensei for his opinion on the question and here is his answer :

Q – Do you think there is similarity between 伝達 et 合気 ??

Akuzawa - It is the same phenomenon

Dentatsu is very rich and to understand it is to understand a great part of the Aunkai.

The research is a very important part of the Aunkai and the same goes for the energy.

Each of us can talk about it in a different way but the source « the energy » remains the same.

Have a good practice.

The essential is invisible to the eyes
